The Weather

The weather can be summed up in one word – sunny! The Costa de la Luz holds the sunshine record for Spain, and with over 3,200 hours of sun each year so there aren't too many rainy days. That said, when it does rain in this area it tends to pour and can cause flooding – another reason to buy from an agent who really knows the area well.

Winters are mild – you can sunbathe on Christmas day if the sun is shining, although the sea may be a touch chilly! Spring and autumn are perfect, and although the middle of summer can be pretty hot the gentle Atlantic breeze takes the edge off the extremes of temperatures found in other parts of Spain.

If you are into windsurfing or similar, the southern end around Tarifa is ideal as there is often a good strong wind on the coast but as soon as you come 15 miles or so up the coast you will usually find that the wind dies to no more than a gentle breeze.
